July 2009
Welcome
friends and Chrysler Enthusiast yet another month has greeted us, I
start this month with a great big THANK YOU for the girls that put so
much work and effort in to the July Ladies day out, they say they are
happy with the out come but I think we could have done with a little
bit more support. On the other side of the day out the boys had a
great time the run from the Club house to Victoria Point to the Rock
N Roll diner, we had the pick of the parking right out side. We had
the 1976 Newport, behind that we had the 1966 Newport and behind that
we had a 1960 Phoenix from another club, just great to see. The other
cars were a ‘66 Dodge Phoenix a ‘55 Dodge Kingsway, a
Valiant and a FXXX Mustang (I hear it hopes to be a Charger one day)
when it grows up.
Just the other day I was in my local Autobarn
and got talking to the owner Gerry he tells me he would love to have
a club day out at his store at Rothwell. I will bring it up at the
next club meeting so all can have their say on the matter. Gerry
says that he is willing to provide a discount to club members on
display of current membership card. The date that has been suggested
is the 1st Nov it is a Sunday; we can set up our BBQ and have a
sausage sizzle and raise funds for the club.
For those that are
coming on the Presidents Day run on Aug 30th at Wivenhoe Dam, the
park has all the requirements for a great day out huge views, plenty
of play ground gear for the young Chrysler Owners, so make sure you
put you name down so that we can attempt to feed you the
day.
Chrysler EXPO is coming up and we would love to have
some more assistance with the organising and on the day help, and if
we can get some new ideas and new thinking for the great day out, it
can only get better. The work load I ask what work load I do what I
can for the day and what I can on the day, so please come and give a
helping hand in doing the organising and on the day help.
It
really is great fun meeting people and going out and seeing the looks
on the faces of other people as they say I used to have one of those,
it was great car, or my dad had one when I was only young.
So
let’s get out there and support the club on the runs and have
the fun that we all planned to have when we started with the Club

Welcome friends and Chrysler Enthusiasts! Yet
another month has greeted us. It is official - President Barrack
from the land of the United States of Automobiles has announced that
the legendary auto manufacturer of the fine Chrysler sheet metal has
succumbed to the greed of the banking sector and has had to apply for
the bankruptcy. But to the rescue came the little known trolley
company FIAT that has seen an opportunity to enter the USA car market
and bring to the FIAT name plate a highly respected name and the
marquee recognized around the world for it’s powerful engines
large comfortable ride and presence on the road. So again I ask will
we see the 300c, called the 300cc. Will the Dodge Avenger be called
the FIAT 185 Retaliator? Will the Bambino be powered by the 360 HEMI
and what will that be called? Only the powers to be can answer those
questions and more in the fullness of time.
Now to the local
car scene, and the Cleveland Auto Spectacular was just huge! The
variety of sheet metal of all makes and colour was just awesome. The
swap meet kept Rose and myself busy for some time. The show &
shine must have been the biggest that I have seen over the years. I
have only missed maybe one show & shine. It was also great to
see one of our club members’ Almighty Phoenix that was injured
on its way to Winter Sun back on the road in all it’s glory.
It was great to catch up with some of the Club Members whilst at the
Cleveland Auto Spectacular and the number of Chrysler Products that
were on show it was just great to see.
I would like to say welcome
to the latest club members, let’s hope we can meet up on some
of the club runs and/or at the club meetings. Don’t forget our
very own Chrysler EXPO in October. If you can help out in some of
the organising or help out on the day please do not hesitate to let
the club committee know - we sure can do with the help.
Well
fellow moparians let’s get out there and support the club on
the runs and have the fun that we all planned to have when we started
with the Club.

Welcome friends and
Chrysler Enthusiast! Yet another month has greeted us, the 20th
Birthday bash at the Southbank Maritime Museum was a huge success and
we had more to eat than you could get your tonsils around. The
caterers did a wonderful job and kept us well fed for the entire time
they were there and the staff at the Museum were just fantastic.
As all ways, were you find a fleet of the fine Chrysler sheet metal
you will have people with the cameras clicking away. As you
would expect you see the Maritime Museum was right under the Goodwill
Bridge and the pedestrian traffic was just phenomenal! Every time I
looked up I could see a camera and some body talking about the fine
display of the Chrysler family of Sheet Metal. We had some 18
cars and one of them was a pretend CHARGER. The owner tells me it was
a Ford Capri hopping to be a Chrysler Charger one day. Now how is
this for quality - the Diamantina was guided by non other than the
DODGE Division of the Chrysler Co. Yes fellow Club Members the ships
compass was built and supplied by the DODGE Division of the Chrysler
Co. It is good to see the Dodge Division supplying parts to the
Australian Government to help us in a time of need.
On other
fronts - by the time you all get to read this Cliff and Di will be
back from the USA and able to tell some tales of travel and
excitement. I also hear in the news that the price of fuel is on it’s
way down. Well as you all know us Aussies are floating on a sea
of oil and the feds do not want us to get at it so they are letting
us, the motorist, wiping horse pay for the pleasure of using the
Arabs oil and let our liquid motion lotion go stale under ground and
maybe sell it to the rest of the world at a profit.
Well fellow
club members I have had my say and a little longer this time but I
know Laurence will have space for it. So until next month let’s
get out there and support the club on the runs and have the fun that
we all planned to have when we started with the Club.

Welcome friends and Chrysler Enthusiast
We
are facing yet another month it was good to see the Newport in the my
car story. Now May 18th this year is the Presidents day run to the
Enoggerra State Forrest we will need numbers so that we can plan for
feed and drinks for you all please let the club know very soon, as we
do not want you to miss out on a great day out on the run. The only
off road is the parking and that is Lawn not 4X4 tracks we have a
field hired for the exclusive use for the Chrysler family of fine
sheet metal. The 20th Birthday Run to the South Bank Maritime Museum
on the 20th July is a catered event and we do need numbers for that
as we have got outside Caterers coming to feed us. Now for the trivia
from last month the car that the Presley family used to get from
Tupelo to Memphis was a 1939 Plymouth. We are still looking for a
couple of Club members to run the Devonshire Tea’s so if you
are able to help the club on the Expo day we would very much
appreciate the help. The club is gaining in number every month and
that is good to see.
So now let’s get out there and support
the club on the runs and have the fun that we all planned to have
when we started with the Club.

Hello to all our members,
As the current committee term comes to an end, I would like to
thank everyone this year who has participated in the club. I would
especially like to thank all those people who put there hand up at
the last AGM and said yes I will help and that they did. It has been
a very good year for the club, with a lot of great memories gained
along the way.
I would like to wish the best of luck to the
incoming committee and apologise for my lack on committees in the
coming year, as I am unable to give the club the 100% it deserves.
I
thank everyone for there support of each other and the club, and look
forward to catching up with everyone at future meetings and runs.

lol like I don't talk enough now,
Well my turn.
I must say a couple of thankyous 1: To the Clonan family for their hospitality & opening up their home on the 11th of March. It was a great day with club members, great views, and a nice refreshing dip in the pool!! Just what the Dr ordered. oh yes that’s right there was a reason we visited, to look at the car in the garage. Will be great to see it when its finished Mal & Crew. Lunch was great (and boy don't we know how to cook a burger). I know the gent's who attended were talking for ages about the project. Then we had the "Clonan Family Awards" what a surprise thanks girls! Bruce & Eric just loved their certificates. We will have to have more competition next time we visit so take the Chrysler for a drive and come on a club rally. (see full story elsewhere in this newsletter)
Thankyou 2: Many thanks for the Benger and Beattie families for donating raffle prizes.
Chrysler Expo is coming along just great. This year we are celebrating the 50th Birthday of the "Chrysler Royal" so if you're one of the many in the club who have one? You had better start polishing and getting it ready for the birthday celebration.
Congratulations to Helen (Club President) and her partner Jon for getting married on the 16th March. On behalf of the Members of the COCQ. We wish you both many years of happiness.
Thanks for listening

Hi All,
This month I want to start off firstly by saying a HUGE Thank you to the expo committee. Despite all the hurdles in your path you produced a great expo this year. There may have been a few hiccups but everything fell into place in the end. On behalf of the whole club, we really appreciate the time and effort you each put in for this day.
Secondly, I want to thank all the members who volunteered on the day. Without you the day wouldn't have turned out so great.
Thank you to the club members who bought their cars along, we had a really good turn out this year. But, I urge all the members out there who didn't volunteer or weren't able to make it, to mark it on your diaries for next year - The first sunday in October!
I
look forward to seeing our members at the Christmas Party at the end
of November, please come along for a great afternoon.
Also
don't forget the Mopar Run on the 12th of November, this will be
a great cruise and turn out of Chrylser Vehicles.

Hello there pentastars!
Well the year is really MARCHing along now {boom boom!!}
and i just seem to get busier and busier ,the extension is at a very rewarding and at the same time very annoying stage-PLASTERING!! I can tell you with absolute certanty that i will not be running off to be a plasterer and i have a new found respect for anyone who does it for a living!!
To expo news and i have just come from the March expo meeting and things are coming together very nicely indeed-both the planning and the new commitee.
I have found recently probably the biggest time wasting activity this side of an x box {for me anyway-feel free to back me up here !] and its name is ebay- my god its like a bloody addiction i go on and say to myself im just going to have a quick look and 3 hours later ive bid on 10 things!!
Oh well ive had my bitch ill catch you round.
LEONARD HANNAH PRESIDENT
February 2006
Hello there pentastars!
Well boom just like that here's February and here i am again sitting in front of the computer thinking what amazing and uplifting things i can share with you guys.
Lets start with expo; as you may or may not know, this year is the 35th birthday of the all australian hero the charger so the expo commitee has decided in its infinate wisdom to theme this show HEY CHARGER!!!!!
Next is the club meeting; this month we had Simon Major from Queensland transport come in to tell us about some of the changes to SIV rego. Now this guy is a car ethusiust like us and has a couple of mopars as well so he was fantastic value and we would really like to get him back at some stage because the poor bugger was hounded untill about 10.30pm with questions about it!
The clevelend autospectacular was the club run this month and i can only tell you about the swap meet because i was increadibly selfish and set up there[ unfortunately cars dont get built with just love !] so hopefully someone who went to the show will jot down a few lines about it.
Well thats about all for now, be good till next time.
LEONARD HANNAH PRESIDENT
January 2006
Hello there Pentastars!
Welcome to another fantastic year in paradise. I hope the silly season was kind to you and you got all the presents you wanted!
I finally got that 1968 DODGE Charger I've always wanted, and it's orange with a confederate flag on the roof.......thats right folks - the General Lee!! Now if I can just figure out how to increase it to it's full size...oh well at least it's good on fuel!
Speaking of fuel our japanese mopar (Mitsubishi Starwagon) came to an untimely end last month when out of the blue it caught fire right outside the kids school - the kids thought it was great though as the fire department came and put it out - not bad for a last day at school!! The replacement came in a Ford Falcon and before you start I've already had to do the head gasket on it so we just have to hope that the "Fix Or Repair Daily" thing isn't accurate!!
Anyway back to real cars, the next club run will be to the Cleveland Autospectacular on the 12th of February, so I would like to see as good a turn out as the RACQ Motoring of Yesteryear, because that was a great day! Another big thing is at the next meeting we will be having a spokesman from QLD Transport attending to tell us about some changes to SIV Rego and modification rules so if you have some questions, come along and pick his brains on the 15th of February at the clubrooms from 7:30pm.
Well thats about all I have for
now, I'll catch you next month.

silly season again and /that of course means it’s the end of
the year. I hope you’ve achieved everything you wanted to do
this year and it has indeed been kind to you. I know I’ve
just started achieving my goals recently but better late than never.
I am looking forward to a hard earned rest and I hope you are too.
So be good to each other, have a good holiday and here’s to a

Hello
there Pentastars!
Well what a busy month it has been. So much to
do so little time! While I haven’t gotten to all the
events I could have this month there are three that I did get to that
were fantastic. These included Mopar Sunday at Willowbank
Raceway and I just had a ball watching all those MoPars doing what
they we made for, and it was really well organised. Next was
our own Chrysler Owners Club of Qld Inc run to the Ipswich Railway
Workshops at North Ipswich. Whilst I am not a big train buff,
it was great to learn about the history of rail in Queensland and
find out how trains work! The kids enjoyed themselves also!
Then there was Chrysler Expo. Despite a reduction in numbers,
possibly due to the big fuel shocko this year and the grand final,
Chrysler Expo 2005 was the best so far.
As you may not know this
past Expo was the last event organised by the long standing Chrysler
Expo Committee that has been doing it for some years. Next year
a new Committee headed by myself will be put in place, so if you have
any suggestions I would love to hear from you direct. That’s
about it from me this month. Be good to one another and see ya next
month!

Hi there
folks!
Well it’s been another action packed month in the
Hannah household – never a dull moment!! If there’s
one thing I’ve picked up when I get around the traps and talk
to various car people it’s that us Mopar enthusiasts are a bit
of a rare breed – and I don’t mean the ones when the
subject comes up will admit that, yeah, they are some pretty cool
MoPars around – I mean the ones (myself included) that are
obsessed with MoPars – the ones that know the truth about what
is a tough car.
When I think of the amount of times the subject
comes up about tough Aussie muscle and the question is asked “so
what are you, mate – Holden or Ford” and you reply “well
actually I ‘am a Valiant (Mopar) man and that’s when the
conversation goes cold.
At no point is the fact more prevalent
that we are a rare breed is when you pick up a magazine and look for
parts for your Mopar. You have to wade through the acres and
acres of Chev, Holden and Ford Rubbish before finally finding a small
section for MoPars. And ant the prices ridiculously cheap for
those other brands, Mopar parts on the other hand are always twice
the price! And if you are like me you enjoy magazine such as
Street Machine for example and although lately they have been very
good (2 Valiants on the front cover in the last 2 editions) most
times you search the pages for a Mopar and are very disappointed –
another 55 Chevy, or EH or HQ, and yes another XYGT Falcon replica –
YAWN!!!
Anyhow, enough whining as I know I’m preaching to
the converted few I’ m sure, but I am so glad to get to get it
off my chest. The bottom line of all of this is that we are the
trend setters, the pioneers and the ones that are doing something
different so I say be PROUD to be a MoPar fan and what you drive and
stay happy – at least you know you have made the right
choice!
Until next time folks keep smiling
Leonard
Hannah President
January 2005
Well
hello there for another year and a very happy 2005 to you all!
The
Hannah clan had a very productive break getting a few more projects
done around the yard and of course spending some quality time
together as a family.
So what does 2005 hold for the Chrysler
Owners Club of Qld? Well for starters one of the new run coordinators
happens to live under the same roof as me so one of my hopes is that
we’ll be able to give more notice and more information about
the upcoming runs and also try a few new locations and things to do.
I would like also to try where possible give a bit more back to the
people who do come to runs and meetings – even if it’s
just taking the club BBQ on club runs. Until we are free from the
burden of this photocopier were a bit restricted.
Most of all
this year I am going to not get frustrated at how slowly some things
happen and just let them happen at their own pace – I mean the
reason I joined a club is to socialise with like-mined people who us
their cars like they should do. How about you?!?!
Anyway lets
have a great year. I hope to see you some time in it – Enjoy!
Leonard Hannah President

2004
Hi there folks! Well how about Expo!! How
good was it !? This years Expo has to have been the best one yet –
the oval was chocka block and there was almost more good-looking cars
in the car park. The weather was again just right and we had a merry
go round, bouncy castle, clowns and a train – what more could
you want?! To top that there was a live band, a motorcar racing
legend – Leo Geogahan and the brand new Chrysler Crossfire
Roadster Convertible – What a great day!
I would like to thank the people that make all this frivolity
possible. First of all of course is the Chrysler Expo Committee - not
only did they have countless meetings before the event organising
everything but most of the people that were still there at 5.30 pm
when we finally finished cleaning up were Chrysler Expo Committee
members. I would also like to thank the volunteers on the day –
while there could have been more – your support of the club is
greatly appreciated and will go a long way in ensuring that Expo will
be around for a long time to come (which is good because it’ll
be Expo 2010 before the VIP makes its debut!).
The next extravaganza on the Chrysler owners Club
calendar is of course the Christmas Party on the 26th November. This
would have to be one of the more relaxed and informal of our
gatherings where people, sit on Santa’s lap and reflect on the
year that has been. From what I hear so far it’s going to be a
hoot so I would like to see as many of you as possible as we all get
festive!
Anyhow that about
enough rambling from me, again, thankyou to all that helped with Expo
and I hope to see you all at the Christmas Party!

Hello
there folks- I’m back!! Yes that’s right, get ready
for another year of fun and frivolity as I stumble my way through
another year as your President! I would like to start by saying
a big thanks to the rest of the committee for taking on their jobs
again and a big welcome to the new faces that will be joining us in
2004 – 2005.
Last year was a really
interesting year for me in more ways than one and I’ve learnt
more about the club and I would in 10 years just as a member and the
more I learn the better I feel because there are some really
fantastic people in this club. And never is it more apparent
than at CHRYSLER EXPO and the A.G.M when people just muck on in and
do what is required.
Speaking of Expo, we
still need few more people to put up their hand for the Chrysler Expo
Committee for 2005. I don’t know that I need to plug it
all that much but I know that you won’t be disappointed.
If you do decide to join us it is well worth it because it’s an
event that every dye in the wool MoPar fan holds close to their
heart.
I’ll sign off now and get a
Kleenex but until next time keep it MoPar !!

Greeting Chryslerphsles
!!! Its that season again- the season of the long weekend. So
for those of us with project cars it means another day to work on
them – NOT!
So hands up who went to Roma this Easter.
Unfortunately we were unable to attend this year but from all reports
so far it was again a ball – watch this space for a run report.
Also cruising Rockhampton show – I haven’t heard anything
about how that went so if you’ve got any info about it let us
know.
Keep the 16th of May (it’s a Sunday) free because
that’s when the flash new car park at the club rooms gets
christened with our now annual ‘Presidents Day Rally’
which will consist of a swap of car parts for members only and social
gathering of members of this club. So bring along all those bits that
are cluttering up the shed and come on down for a snag and a chin wag
and help me celebrate - I would love to see you there!
So for now I will sign off but remember your Chrysler doesn’t
have to be a show machine to join us (our’s isn’t ). If
it’s a Chrysler or Chrysler Related we want to see it!

for now,

Hello there my
fellow Pentastars! Well the year is accelerating faster than an
E49 Charger with the throttle wide-open going down the mountain at
Bathurst!
For those who missed the last run, we had a great day,
starting at the BP at Burpengary and going up to Kenilworth making
our way through misty mountains and quiet country roads on a
beautifully dramatic (and cool) overcast day.
I had a bit of
bad news from the editor of slick six packs magazine, Phil Bryant
lately that the magazine is in a bit of financial trouble. Now
being a fan of the magazine I would hate to see it go under because
it’s a fantastic read and I believe it has created a lot of
interest in the Chrysler product and opened a few eyes and ears as to
how good these cars really are. So I ask that everyone gets
behind them because otherwise all there is publications full of
wannabies and never were’s.
Apart from that folks
everything seems to be ticking along nicely. Don’t forget
the club sticker competition –read on for details and keep
those Chryslers out there.

Hello
there everyone.
Well what do you know –it’s the end of
the year already! It’s certainly been a very busy year for the
Hannah clan and the Chrysler Owners Club of Queensland.
As we move
into the festive (silly) season I guess it’s time to reflect on
the year, (where did it go?) and all the hits and misses and what
we’ll do differently next year, (and actually start restoring
the VIP is a good start!).
Thee most memorable part of the year
for me would be EXPO for sure – it’s the one day (that
there should be more of) that you can declare your unashamedly
“MoPar’ and there are hundreds of people around you that
understand! This years Christmas Party was again a doozy and if you
missed it, more fool you – it was a HOOT!
Our condolences
go to Leo Geoghan and his family for the loss of his brother Pete,
another fine motor racing legend goes to the great racetrack in the
sky.
I’ll sign off now by wishing you all a merry and
Safe Christmas and prosperous New Year and I’ll see you all in
’04!

Hi
there everyone!!
Well with very few exceptions QUEENSLAND
CHRYSLER EXPO was an absolute success again this year. To all those
that attended I hope you had an enjoyable day, to all those who
didn’t you dead set missed out, and, to all those who helped
out on the day a special thankyou from me, and, give yourself a pat
on the back – good work!!
I would also like to thank
very much the Expo Committee, especially Ted and Jenny Sando who
after many Expos are moving on from the Committee, so on behalf of
the club thanks for all the hard work guys. This brings me to my next
point. There are now 2 positions available on the committee, although
I would prefer that we get 4 new people on board. If you want to be
part of something big and would like EXPO to be as we all know it can
be, then contact myself or any of the other committee members and
LET’S TALK!!
On the subject of club runs, before Expo
was the run to the Yatala Drive in. The variety of cars at this event
was amazing, there was really a bit of everything, and it was good to
see so many rockers still going strong!! I was a bit disappointed
with the first movie but the next two were pretty good.
Finally
I would just like to thank all of you who took the time to fill out
the questionnaire, WE’VE GONE THROUGH THEM and taken the on
board all your suggestions/comments especially about interaction
between club because aren’t we all trying to do the same thing-
maintain and enjoy our old classics?!
I’ll leave you with
that thought, until next time

I
had the good fortune to sit in on the last Expo meeting and by all
accounts everything is going well with one exception – the
number of people willing to lend a hand. I can tell you first hand
what a rewarding feeling it is to get amongst Expo – I finally
decided to give a few hours last year (on my wedding anniversary
–thanks Abbie!) and I say what a relief it was to start giving
something back to the club.
Obviously I am going to be rather
busy on the day ( I wouldn’t have it any other way as I believe
it is such a special day) but I would like to take the opportunity to
meet and chat with as many members as I can so if you have any ideas
or thoughts or even gripes and complaints, don’t be afraid to
bring them out in the open.
As I am writing this report prior
to Expo another closer event that I’m looking forward to is the
Dependable Rockers Dance rock and roll drive in night at the
Beenleigh Drive In –hopefully people will take the opportunity
to dress up and have a bit of fun with it.
Again I will plead
with you that if you have some time to give to Expo please do and
lets enjoy everything that is special about Chrysler Expo
2003.

Well
hello there everybody. My name is Leonard Hannah and I’m
your new President. I must say I was very surprised to put my
hand up let alone be nominated, but thank you to those who decided to
take a chance on me. You won't be disappointed! I would like to
take this opportunity to introduce my myself. I am 28 year old
and I live in Caboolture. I have a fabulous wife Abbie, a
beautiful Daughter Mackayla, 3, and wonderful son, Sad, 14 months
and, a 1968 Chrysler VIP in a thousand pieces.
Originally from New
Zealand we moved over here in Feb 2000 and since have purchased just
over 2 acres. Got married 2001, had a son (May 2002) and have
just finished building a house! I am mad keen on motor sport,
mostly V8 super cars and often wonder if it wasn't for some bad luck
at Bathurst would we be able to buy a 2003 Valiant Charger (food for
thought). Whilst I am a staunch Valiant supporter, this club is
all about Chrysler and Chrysler Related vehicles, and I certainly
enjoy seeing cars from different camps, at shows and rallies.
So don't be afraid to show yours off, even if it hasn't got a
Chrysler badge after all our first car in Australia was a 1979 Sigma
Wagon.
I would like to thank Ted & Jenny Sando for all the
hard work they have put in to the club over the past year and
congratulations on the 15th Birthday Celebrations it was a great day
out. I would also like to thank Mick & Tina for all the
tireless work they do in the running of the club and Laurence for the
fantastic newsletters, I look forward to them every month.
We
look forward to working with the whole committee, and hope to meet as
many of you members as we can, so don’t be shy. To finish
off I would like to ask that as many of you that could, please offer
some time for Expo (phone Eric on (07) 3268 1704). I think
you'll agree that Eric puts a lot of effort in to Expo, so come and
show your support and lets make Expo the best "Chrysler Expo"
in the world.

Well members
the last 12 months have really flown by, here it is the end of my
second term as President and with the AGM coming along on 16th July
it only seems like yesterday that I took over the reins. Hope you
have put your nominations in for the various positions, which will
become vacant and I trust that some of you will consider a position
on the committee for 2003/2004.
I’ve enjoyed the
position and with the continued strong support from other members of
the committee I have watched the club go through some difficult times
but by and large endure these down times and come through to go from
strength to strength.
I would take this opportunity to thank
all the members of the various committees for their support and their
hard work and dedication and also a thank you to the many members who
have given me encouragement to achieve a smooth and successful
running of your club.
As with nearly all clubs and
organizations there is the hard core of workers who attend most
meetings/runs/functions and are always there to lend a hand when
needed. Our club is no different. Whilst I acknowledge the hard work
by that core of people I would like to pay special tribute to two
members who I think do their job beyond the call of duty. I
would like to say a special ‘thank you’ to Tina Denman,
our secretary for a job well done. Tina is one of the founding
members of the club and her experience and knowledge is invaluable.
Most of all though I would like to say a ‘VERY SPECIAL THANK
YOU’ to Laurence our newsletter editor who has occupied the
position for many years and who has done a great job. It is no mean
feat to ensure that a comprehensive and interesting newsletter is
produced every month. Compiling articles, items, photo’s,
reports etc is time consuming and in some cases a tedious and
frustrating job. I would also like to thank my lovely wife Jenny, for
her endless support.
At the time of writing our 15th Birthday
run is on this coming Sunday starting from Meadowlands Park and going
to Victoria Point. The AGM in July, and our super dupa Expo in
October.
It was great to see so many members at the June
meeting despite the cold and it was even better to see quite a few
new young members and their families. A warm welcome to you
all.
Best wishes to Phil O’Shea who is having surgery on
his knee and a continue to get well to Graham Nicholson and to
anybody else who is ill or recovering from illness and a Happy
Birthday to those having a birthday.

May 2003
Hi everyone.
Welcome to the May newsletter. It certainly makes a difference
in the numbers attending a meeting when there is an important issue
to discuss i.e. SIV. After what seemed like an eternity and
suggestions put forward by many members it appears that a solution to
this matter has now been found and accepted by a vote by all
present. A sensible compromise was the order of the day, which
was the only reasonable way to go. For more information on the
new rule contact the Secretary on (07) 3202 3763.
I am pleased
to advise that your club is growing steadily averaging about 4-8 new
members every month. Our members number about 250 at the time
of writing. Speaking to people at various events it is amazing
the interest in the older car. It’s getting stronger all
the time.
The Presidents Day on the 10th May at the clubrooms
was a huge success with an increase by about 50% on last year.
It is hoped that this remains an annual event. There were about
18 cars and 30 members present. Activity of sales/trade and
give-always was quite strong. We all enjoyed a club sponsored
free delicious BBQ for lunch. It was encouraging to see the
support by so many members and new members. Thanks to everyone
who helped on the day.
Well here it is halfway through 2003
and my how times flies. Coming events include: our 15th
Birthday on the 29th June with a 8.45 start for 9.15 departure from
Meadowlands Picnic Ground, Carindale (see flyer for details), AGM in
July (so please give some thought to taking a position on the
committee to volunteer your time for your club). Of course
there’s Chrysler Expo 2003 on the 5th October at the Mt Gravatt
Showground. Interest is coming in from all directions all over
Australia from the public and traders/exhibitors alike. Judging
from the enquiries it seems that we might have a record number of
entrants this year. Pre - entry forms will be available
soon.
REMEMBER WE WILL NEED ABOUT 30 VOLUNTEERS TO HELP AT
CHRYSLER EXPO
SO PLEASE LODGE YOUR NAME WITH ERIC LEVETT ON (07)

To those who may be sick, get well soon and to those
having a birthday ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’.

Welcome one and
all to 2003. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and New Year
and are looking forward to an exciting year with the club.
Jenny
and I spent a week in Medowi (near Raymond Terrace) with my sister
and her husband and had a great time. The traffic coming north
at Christmas time through places like Ballina, Kew and Macksville was
bumper to bumper for many kilometres before each town. Coming
home we were held up for about 40 minutes coming into Kempsey.
Double points and fines were in place so adhering to the speed limit
was a must.
Club events this year include the Gatton Street
Sprints, ‘Chryslers on the Coast’ Show & Shine in
March, President’s Day in May, possible cruise to Somerset Dam,
Garage Crawl and of course our very own Chrysler Expo in October.
The Chrysler Expo committee has had its first meeting for the year
and preparations for a great show are well under way. We also
have an optional club run to Rockhampton at Easter and for those
going you had better book ASAP, as bookings are very solid.
This
year marks the clubs 15th Birthday so we hope to have a special event
to celebrate this occasion. More on this later. On other
club matters, there has been a noticeable decline in the number of
members attending both meetings and runs recently despite the fact
that the club is about 280 strong. The committee would
certainly like to hear from members should they have any comments on
this matter. I would like to thank those members who do make
the effort to come to meetings especially those who travel as far as
the Gold and North Coasts and even a 50-minute drive from Ipswich.
Thank you for you support.

Well here it is…The season to be
jolly, the mad rush to buy that last present, the holiday season, the
time to spend quality time with family and friends, have a few
drinks, eat some fine food and generally take time to relax and enjoy
the festive season.
Its Christmas time once again. My
how the time flies when you’re having fun. Most of us are
so busy these days with work, business and socializing it’s
hard to keep track just how quickly the time does go.
The Club
held its annual Christmas party on the 23rd November, which was well
attended by members and guests and from all reports everyone had a
wonderful time. Congratulations to our ladies on the social
committee who again provided us with a delicious and plentiful dinner
and organised our ‘Special Guest’ Santa who was dressed
in his usual attire including well-worn colourful ‘Runners’.
Santa gave out presents to the children, then we had the Kris Kringle
and then Jenny entertained us with a few party games. The money
raised during the year from raffles contributed greatly to reducing
the costs to the club for this years Xmas party. Well done
girls! A big thank you goes to Michael Appelman for being the
DJ and providing his sound equipment for the evening. A saving
to the club of quite a bit of money. Well-done Michael (and
Donna + Lillie) especially as it was thrown on him at the last
minute. I would like to thank everyone who helped on the day in
whatever capacity from setting-up to cleaning-up, thanks to you all.
Many hands make light work.
This last year has seen the Club
go through an agonizing time due to the uncertainty of Public
Liability Insurance and the question of dates etc for our Expo but we
weathered the storm and came out smiling. This years Expo was the
biggest and best ever and once again thanks must go to everyone who
assisted in making it such a huge success. On that note a special
thank you to Mark & Kerry Breeds and Peter Swanston for their
continuing and invaluable support over the last few years.
PLEASE
CONSIDER PUTTING YOUR NAME ON THE JOB LIST FOR CHRYSLER EXPO 2003 -
ITS ONLY A FEW HOURS ONCE A YEAR
This year we have seen a few
innovations such as Sausage Sizzle before and after the meetings and
the Presidents Day held in May and the introduction of sending the
newsletter by email. With plans well in hand for club runs for next
year we can look forward to some interesting and exciting times.
At this stage it looks as though an optional run to Rockhampton at
Easter 2003 may be the go with perhaps a stay-over at Maryborough on
the first night on the way up.
Our first meeting is Wednesday
15th January with the Expo committee meeting the week AFTER on 22nd
due to holiday commitments. In closing may I thank one and all
for your support throughout the year and wish you all a very Merry
and Safe Xmas and a Prosperous and Healthy 2003.

The year is quickly slipping away with
Christmas only a matter of a few weeks now. Its’ been a
difficult year in some respects particularly in relation to Public
Liability Insurance which is now under control all being well.
The
item on everyone’s lips of course is the huge success of our
2002 Chrysler Expo held at Mt Gravatt showgrounds on Sunday 6th
October and what a success it was. Praise must go to not only
the Expo committee but a very, very ‘BIG THANK YOU’ to
all our club members, members of other clubs and friends and
relatives of some of our number who so graciously donated their time
and energy to ensure the day was a memorable one. A special
‘Thank you’ must go to our very own Henk Degen for his
invaluable assistance in providing that ‘UNIFORM’ which
helped enormously with the market traffic and pedestrians.
With
a membership of in excess of 270 it is nevertheless somewhat
disappointing to see the same reliable faces front-up both on the
Saturday and Sunday to help with all the preparation and work
involved in setting things up. It gets a little tiresome for
these people to continue supporting the club in this way when there
are so many of you who could assist with as little as 1 to 2 hours
over the week-end after all these functions are created for the
overall financial benefit of YOUR club. I was extremely
disappointed to see that the actual entrants for the Saturday night
cruize and dine was only 2 (two) members cars. This is just NOT
good enough. It was well organized and the feed-back from most
was that it was really great.
COME ON - LETS SEE YOUR NAME ON
THE JOB LIST FOR EXPO 2003
A new Expo committee has been
appointed for 2003 and we have had our first meeting at which the
direction and details for next years Expo will take was discussed.
At the time of writing an application has been lodged with the
Trustees of the Mt Gravatt showgrounds to hold it there again next
year.
Our Christmas party is set down for Saturday 23rd
November. You should have received the flyer for this event by
now. If you haven’t filled it in yet please do so and
return ASAP. At the November meeting we will be having a
sausage sizzle provided by the ladies of the social committee AFTER
the meeting so have dinner on us.

At the time of writing this report our
major annual fundraising event Chrysler Expo was only a matter of
days away. Having been on the Expo Committee I’ve been able to
observe the professional and diligent way fellow members have
approached and performed their duties. The organizing behind the
scenes of such a. major event is mind blowing to say the
least.
Our caps must go off to those who have given so much of their time to
ensure that we all enjoy the day.
From some sources I believe
there are people from all over Australia and even N Z coming along.
Last year we even had a couple from America – club members
Kelly and George Irwin join us. Lets hope the weather is kinder
to us this year.
Your new Expo committee is already looking
forward to working together to make next years Expo a huge success.
We are also looking at a different venue, as the Mt Gravatt
showground is now not a consideration, unfortunately. The venue
must be centrally located and provide suitable facilities and
amenities. Any ideas please ring me on 3245 5817 or Graeme
Harris on 5498 9579 or Ray Dahlin on 3325 4849.
There are no more
club runs as such this year as Chrysler Expo takes care of October
and our Christmas party is in November. Donations for the
Christmas hamper are still being accepted so please bring along your
item to next meeting. The position of club run coordinator is
still vacant so anyone interested in the job please advise Tina on

The destination of the usual Easter run is yet to be
decided as the possibility of going to Armidale is looking in doubt
due to lack of numbers from our Sydney counterpart.

AUGUST 2002
Well the rains have come at last bringing
much relief to our water-starved lawns and gardens. Our heart-felt
feelings must go to the families on the land trying to keep it
together with little or no rain for so long.
August already almost 2/3 of the year gone and just around the corner is our major fund-raising event for the year Chrysler Expo on 6th October once again at the Mt Gravatt Showground, Logan Rd Mt Gravatt. Now that we have solved our insurance problem all systems are go for the best ever display of Chryslers, Rock N Roll dancing, trade stalls, car corrals, swap meet, huge variety of food and drinks, cash prizes and much, much more all preceded by our very popular Saturday night ‘Cruizin N Dine’. If you have’nt booked yet what are you waiting for?
Once again we are seeking the assistance of members to ensure the
success of the day by volunteering their services for a short period
of two (2) hours at one of Fifteen (15) sites.
By chipping-in and
helping you are not only reducing the workload on others but you are
helping your club financially in the final analysis. IF YOU CAN
HELP PLEASE RING JIMMY TAYLOR ON 3890 3765.
Some exciting events planned for the future include our Xmas Party Saturday 23rd November, optional run to Armidale at Easter 2003 (subject to confirmation.) Presidents Day/Internal Swap Meet in May 2003 (date to be fixed) possible overnight run to Bunya Mountains, observation run, sausage sizzle prior to meeting (TBA) and a new and old members night. We have approximately 280 members, about 160 of which live in the Brisbane Metropolitan area most of whom we have never seen. To those of you who have never been to a meeting or club run may I extend a most sincere invitation to come along, meet and enjoy the company of fellow Chrysler owners.
We are making electronic history with this edition of the newsletter as it is the first one to be sent to members with the internet. We have about 26 recipients which will save the club approx $660pa. We would dearly like to see this number increase so if you have the internet and have not registered your email address please do so.
This is a great club – it’s your club – support it.

The
AGM has now come and gone. Welcome back to the old committee members
and a warm welcome to the new incumbents. I am sure we will all work
harmoniously together for the best interest of our club over the next
twelve months. I was quite impressed with the number of nominations
for the various positions at the meeting. Thanks to Graham Harris for
taking the chair during the transition from the old to the new
committee also a very big thanks to him for giving our secretary the
lead to contact an insurance broker who we were finally able to get
our public liability insurance through.
As a ‘thank you’
for their services throughout the year each committee member was
presented with a small badge and a appreciation certificate and as a
special ‘thank you’ our secretary was presented with a
lovely bunch of flowers for the enormous amount of work she performed
during the course of getting our PLI cover.
It was great to see one of our founding members, Brian Palmer, taking on the position of treasurer.
Expo on the 6th of October is our next major event for the year and from reports arrangements are well in hand.
Our Xmas party is set down for Saturday 23rd November, more details closer to the date.

June 2002
Welcome
one and all to the June newsletter. Where does the time go?
It’s hard to believe that this is my 11th report since taking
office last July and that the AGM is set for next month. The
past year has been quite eventful, frustrating and exciting the world
over with various sad events such as the disaster in New York,
conflicts between countries, the passing of the Queen Mother to name
just a few. Of course one of the most important issues which
faces not only our club but society generally is Public Liability
Insurance. Hopefully sooner or later commonsense will prevail
and premiums will be available at a reasonable cost.
A variety of
club runs have been enjoyed by members, our major fund raising annual
event Expo was a huge success, club meetings were well attended and
the optional run to Roma was excellent. During the year a few new
innovative events took place, which included a sausage sizzle prior
to the March meeting, and the inaugural Presidents Day on 11 th May.
On several occasions we had guest speakers, which were interesting
and informative. The newsletter has been revamped thanks to
Laurence our industrious newsletter editor. We are still
working on getting the newsletter up and running on the internet but
some problems still exist. Michael Denman has done a great job
of streamlining our membership records, which should make Ray, &
Colleen’s job easier. Our social committee ensured that
raffles were held at every possible function to assist with finances
for the Christmas party and that suppers and morning teas were
provided. Members have responded well to taking/buying their
own lunch on club runs since it was decided not to take the trailer.
Membership continues to grow nudging 270 which must make your club
one of the biggest car clubs in the State. The cost of
producing the monthly newsletter and the lease of the copying machine
is an ongoing concern and must be addressed.
During the year the
smiling faces of two of our numbers Mick and Ruth Guinane our Vice
President and property manager respectively, moved to Maryborough.
We wish them all the best and trust that they remain members of our
club and thank them for their very valuable help throughout the year.
On another regretful note I have to advise that our favourite big
guy ‘SWANNY’ our run co-ordinator has resigned from the
club at the June meeting. He assures me we will see him on runs
and even when time allows at meetings. His time is taken up
with his job and other club commitments. Thanks Swanny for your
much valued input into the running of the club over many years.
All the best for the future.
In closing I would like say its been
an honour and privilege to serve the club as President I hope my
efforts have been helpful in successfully maintaining the progress
and future success of a great club. I would like to thank all
and every member of the various committees who have performed their
duties with the utmost dedication. There are two committee members
who have done their jobs beyond the call of duty whom I would like to
especially thank. I won’t name them they know who I
mean. To all members many thanks for your continued support.

Welcome
members to the May issue of your clubs newsletter. The
Presidents Day held at the Clubhouse on 11th May was a huge success
with about 20 cars and 40 people attending. The day went well with
quite a lot of parts being sold, swapped or given away. The
concept was well received by members and it is hoped that it becomes
an annual event.
It gives members the opportunity to buy,
exchange or give-away unwanted parts and it promotes discussion on
where to obtain parts and services and it also helps solve
restoration/repair problems by talking to other members. A
plaque with the names of the Presidents was presented to the club,
which will be held by the incumbent President and on display at
meetings and events throughout the year as we are not allowed to hang
it in the club rooms. Once again the ladies and the cooks
provided a nice morning tea and lunch for all to enjoy. Thanks
to all those who attended and helped on the day.
The AGM is just
around the corner so give some thought to either contributing as a
committee member or nominating someone who you would like to see on
the committee. The appropriate forms will be sent to you soon.
The running of the club depends on volunteers giving their time to
ensure the clubs future.
Despite the problem of public liability
insurance the planning and organisation of Expo is proceeding
according to plan. In order for Expo to cover the possibility of
increased insurance premiums the members at the May meeting decided
to suggest to the Expo committee to slightly raise the entry fee.
This years Expo will be bigger and better than ever as a result of
the dedicated hard work by everyone concerned.
Don’t forget
the HELP list we are preparing for members who are willing to supply
information/assistance with the repair/restoration/where to buy parts
or services. If you can offer any help, please do by contacting
the newsletter editor.
Our club membership is running at around
260 and growing almost each week and it’s encouraging to see so
many new and old faces at club runs and meetings. ‘Swanny’
our run coordinator advises that he has some new and exciting runs
planned for us for the next few months.

A third of the year
almost gone with Easter come and gone. Hope everyone enjoyed
the 4-day break and had a safe time. Time to start thinking
about AGM in July. Those of us who travelled to Roma were more
than pleased with the exceptional hospitality and friendliness
afforded us by our hosts and other members of the Roma Historical
Motor Club. The whole weekend was very well organized with the
dinner on Sunday night being the finale of a great weekend. Our
thanks go to our hosts Ken & Veronica Beitz.
The issue of Public Liability insurance is still very much plaguing our club as with many other clubs. At this stage it appears that many insurance companies are not accepting new or renewing old policies which makes it hard all round. Your illustrious secretary Tina Denman has spent many hours and made heaps of phone calls to try to obtain the best deal available. All being well at the time of writing and with her valiant (excuse the pun) efforts there could be some light at the end of the tunnel. The club will keep you informed.
As previously mentioned your newsletter editor and myself have been working on the best way to send the monthly newsletter to members on the internet. After several attempts we find that the newsletter in its present form takes about 25-30 minutes to upload/download which is both frustrating and costly. Therefore we are looking at the possibility of designing a format specifically for the e mail which would take a fraction of the time and less expensive. The downside would be that Newsletter would be reduced in size, contain only relevant information e.g. Forward look, for sale/wanted, Presidents report, advertisers pages, run report and only clip art and no photos as such. Trials will continue until we get it right. With about 50 members now on the internet it will mean a huge saving to the club.
If you have any Chrysler motor vehicle parts you would like to sell or trade Saturday, May 11th is the day to do it. Our Presidents Day is for members only to bring along any Chrysler motor vehicle parts for an internal swap. Starting at 10am at the clubs grounds we will have the swap and BBQ lunch provided by the club. All assistance with the lunch preparations on the day would be appreciated. It would be good if this became an annual event. Hope to see as many of you there as possible
The club trailer and various equipment is for sale by tender open to members only at this stage. Tenders will be opened on 11th May at the Presidents day.
The NEXT MEETING is on May 15th at the Veteran Car Club Rooms- Carindale starting at 7.30
See you there.

A
sausage sizzle and drinks preceded the March meeting, which was
attended by about 25 members. It was voted a great success and
enjoyed by all. Thanks to those who helped. It was
decided at the March meeting to sell the club trailer and BBQ
initially by way of tender to club members only. The suggestion
to sell these items was first muted before Christmas and has laid on
the table for discussion since then. On that basis it was
decided to vote on the issue despite some members absence. The
tenders close at the Presidents day on May 11th. If a
successful tender is not received they will be offered for sale and
advertised in the usual manner. The contents will be stored and
used as required together with the club banner and other items.
If you are interested in purchasing these items you can lodge your
tender with our secretary, Tina Denman at 53 Pine St. NTH IPSWICH
4305.
There has been several reports of people abusing the Special Interest Vehicle Registration system – we have covered this topic in previous newsletters and a WARNING to those driving a vehicle, which is on Special Interest Vehicle Registration and you are NOT on a validated/authorised run you WILL be caught sooner or later. We have had reports filter through from police that they are watching. SO BE WARNED. Remember you are responsible for your own actions, not the club.
On other club matters, the prospect of increased Public Liability premiums still plaque the community and are causing a great deal of concern to many non profit organizations and clubs. The Government has sent us a letter advising that they are looking at a system that may assist clubs like ours. Our treasurer is sending a letter expressing our interest in the project.
Laurence (the Newsletter Editor) and myself have been trailing a system of emailing the newsletter. For those with access to email hopefully you should be receiving a trial newsletter or part thereof shortly which is some good news.
The Expo committee reports that this year is shaping up to be one
of the best - if not the best ever.
Lets hope the weather is good
to us.
Next club run is on 14th April to Buderim. Next meeting Wednesday 17th April. SEE YOU AT BOTH

One
of the hottest subjects on a lot of peoples lips these days is the
rising cost of Public Liability Insurance. Your club is very
aware of the need to have suitable cost effective insurance
especially for our major annual event
Chrysler EXPO as well as
club runs etc. Our secretary, Tina Denman is making thorough
investigations to ensure that the club is well covered at an
affordable cost. In this day and age of sueing at the drop of a
pin we cannot be
complacent therefore as a club we must be
prudent in our approach to insurance coverage.
The year 2002 is
progressing at the speed of lightning; here it is March already with
Easter only a matter of weeks away. Our optional club run to
Roma over Easter has attracted quite a few of our members who are
looking forward to a great time. The Rally Coordinators from
the Roma Historical Motor Club Inc, Ken and Veronica Beitz have once
again organized an impressive and full program for the weekend.
Those attending will be assured of a fabulous and friendly weekend.
When I took the reigns as your President I had thoughts of
introducing more social events for the coming year e.g. golf days,
theatre evenings and the like but after discussion with fellow
members I was convinced that whilst members enjoyed the social aspect
gained on club runs their main interest was the exchange of
experiences and knowledge of restoring, maintaining, interchange of
parts, access to trades people and services and driving motor cars.
The basic reasons for the clubs existence. Hopefully we are
nearing the point where we can send the newsletter to those with
email as we now have a computer program which is both quick and
efficient.
The March meeting will be begin with a Sausage Sizzle
comprising sausage, bread roll, onions and sauce set down for dinner
time at around 5.30 – 6pm. This is an innovation of Jenny
Sando who with other members of the social committee will ensure
plenty to eat for one and all. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
It was encouraging to see so many new faces at the
February meeting. It was also a thrill to welcome one the clubs
founding members, Brian Mansfield. Welcome to you all.
Next club run is to Gold Coast Tweed Chrysler Show & Shine on
March 24 preceded by our next meeting on Wednesday March 20th.
Hope to see you at both.

Hi
members, welcome to 2002. A Happy New Year to you all.
Hope you had a wonderful, relaxing and Merry Xmas. The holiday
season is almost over and it’s back to reality and the daily
grind of every day life.
The club Xmas party was, once again, a huge success. I must admit it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a Santa in thongs. The food was catered-for and was delicious and plentiful. The entertainment was provided by Louise Le Var and her troop and was indeed a great performance. The disc jockey was outstanding as usual. Thanks must go to everyone who supported and contributed to the success of this event. According to all reports the optional run to Ballina was great. (For those who can remember it.).
Your management committee is working very hard to ensure that the club is financially stable, records up-to date and heading in the right direction. I am pleased to say that membership renewals are on target and new members applying for membership is par for the course. All positions in our club are voluntary and held by dedicated members who have the best interest of the club at heart, work hard in their positions and do the best job they can. Constructive criticism for the betterment of the running of the club is always welcomed but unwarranted criticism aimed at another member of the club and which causes unnecessary stress and pain is NOT acceptable. The monthly chore of writing reports, organizing photographs and items for the newsletter and printing and collating, posting same is an arduous task at the best of times and is usually performed by the same members of YOUR club every month. We don’t seem to see many new faces to help when there is work to be done. A wise old man once said, “ Unless you can do better – don’t criticise”.
Our run co-ordinator, Peter Swanston, is working towards providing members with some very interesting runs for 2002 and it is foreshadowed that some extra runs per month will be instigated. Some of the exciting events coming up for this year are the optional run to Roma at Easter, the Presidents Day in May, which will incorporate an internal swap and BBQ lunch, and Expo in October. Hope you can join us. Our next scheduled run is to Bribie Island on February 17 with the next club meeting on the 20th FEBUARY, 2002 SEE YOU THERE!!

November 2001
Almost another year come and gone, another year older. On
reflection it has been an interesting and exciting one for some and
devastating and very sad for others. Our hearts go out, of
course, to families and friends of victims of all the unfortunate
events that took place throughout the world during the year.
Lets hope they can repair and build their lives for the future.
Speaking of the future our club is slowly putting certain items
on the agenda for general discussion and possible advantageous
changes for all members early next year. One of the issues is
the possible sale of the clubs trailer as tabled by Peter Swanston at
the November meeting. This will be up for further discussion and
subsequent voting thereon at the March meeting. Another two
issues are the SIV membership conditions for new members and tighter
control of members replying to functions for catering purposes.
It’s well past time that we have strong and effective
guidelines so everyone knows the rules. Members not re-joining
is a serious concern to me as at the time of writing about 100 people
have not renewed their membership. It would be interesting to
know the reason/s so that efforts could be made to rectify any
problems. One of the problems associated with non-renewals is
the income factor, which if the trend continues will have to be
addressed.
Club runs throughout the year were well supported by
members and their guests and we all look forward to a variety of runs
as organized by our illustrious run co-coordinator Peter ‘Swanny’
Swanston for the coming year. Easter in the Country at Roma is
on again from Friday 29th March to Monday 1st April 2002. If
you can see your way clear to attend this long weekend I am sure you
will have a great time. But you must be quick, as I believe
nearly all accommodation is booked out already.
The optional
weekend to Armidale in April saw a small, but happy, contingent of
our number enjoying a great time. The weather, whilst slightly
chilly, was kind to us and we were well catered for by our wonderful
hosts. Truly a fabulous and friendly experience renewing old
acquaintances and making some new friendships. Bruce Robinson,
who was not at all well with a broken wrist, put on a brave face and
enjoyed himself nevertheless. Chrysler Expo in October was
again a huge success despite the nasty weather early in the morning.
We look forward to a bigger and better Expo next year that I am sure
will eventuate due to the hard work and organisation of everybody
involved.
My congratulations to our very special social committee
ladies who organized a tremendous annual Christmas party for us to
enjoy. Let me tell you the work that goes on behind the scenes
to ensure success of a function such as this is incredible.
Despite having it catered for this year there was still an enormous
workload that had to be addressed. My sincere thanks to all who
assisted in one-way or another. The entertainment was superb
and the Disc Jockey was the most professional I have ever seen (or
heard). I would like to take this opportunity to thank you the
members and the members of the management committee for your
continued support especially since July this year and wish you all a
very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and prosperous 2002.
NEXT CLUB MEETING – 16th JANUARY, 2002 SEE YOU THERE !!
Ted Sando, President
October 2001
Hi
everyone. Well what can I say. This years Chrysler Expo
was an outstanding success despite the weather early in the morning.
When I awoke at 1.15 am on Sunday morning all I could hear was the
rain pouring down. Had not rained for six months before but
here it was. Murphy’s law of course. However, by
9.30am it had cleared up and was fine for the rest of the day.
Full credit must go to all the members of the Expo committee for the
organization and co-ordination of putting such a huge event
together. Definitely eleven out of ten. Loads of praise
must also go to the many hard working members, their friends and
relatives who gave up their valuable time to help on the day, without
whom it would have made things very difficult indeed.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL. WELL DONE
Enough from me about Expo as I’m sure Mark will cover everything in his Expo report.
Only one more meeting (21st Nov) to go before the Christmas party and the end of the year. Preparations are well in hand by the social committee with raffles being a source of income throughout the year, which has helped towards the finances. All donations for the hamper will be gratefully accepted. This is our last function for the year and we would like to see as many members come along as possible.
Those of you who are thinking about going to Roma for Easter next year, (Optional run) may I suggest that you book NOW as according to all reports the City is just about all booked out. Incidentally, if you do go you will have a ball. Jenny and I went in 1998 and had a great time. The activities were non-stop all weekend and we were really well looked after by our hosts.
At the meeting on Wednesday 17th October, the club voted to create the official position of run co-coordinator to be included as part of the committee. I am pleased to advise that Peter ‘Swanny’ Swanston, who has been doing the job for some time now, was duly nominated, seconded and thus elected. Peter has done a sterling job in the past and I’m sure he will continue to find a variety of interesting places for us to go to in the new year. Welcome aboard Pete.
Annual membership renewal fees are now due so if you haven’t paid them yet might be a good idea to do so as soon as possible to ensure continuation of receipt of club newsletter.
One of the things that has impressed me lately is the number of young people, male AND female, that are showing an interest in the older cars. Obviously they have good taste and appreciate vehicles with character and quality.
NEXT CLUB MEETING - 21ST NOVEMBER, 2001 SEE YOU THERE
Ted Sando, President
Sept 2001
Here it is the end of September. How the year has flown.
Only 3 months to the festive season. The Chrysler Expo is only
a matter of days away and the Expo committee and various club members
are busy with final preparations. I’m sure there are lots
of people who don’t realize the amount of work and organising
that goes into such a large event. The Chrysler Expo Committee
has informed me that they would like to see as many members from this
club to attend Chrysler Expo with or without their Chrysler - the
main thing to remember is that just because YOUR VEHICLE MAY NOT BE
SHOW STANDARD IS NOT IMPORTANT! We cannot overstate this fact!
The fact that it is part of the Chrysler Family is the main thing!!
Many of the public attending Chrysler Expo have not seen many
Chryslers, and there is always a lot of interest in the great cars of
yesterday and a lot of memories will be rekindled through a great
display and range of vehicles. SO PLEASE ATTEND! NO
BUTTS! Volunteers are also still required to assist on the
day. Even if it were only for a couple of hours your help would
be much appreciated. Your generous offer of assistance can be
lodged with Jimmy Taylor on (07) 3890 3765. Response by
exhibitors, trades people, sponsors, other clubs and the public
generally has been extremely encouraging. Ray tells me there is
a record number of entries. The move to Mt Gravatt Showgrounds
will prove popular as it is a larger venue with more facilities and
is more central. The ‘Pre Expo Cruise and Dine starting
at Mt Gravatt at 6.30 on the Saturday night before Expo is
already attracting a large number of entries.
Another important club event looming quickly is the Xmas party on 24th November at the clubrooms. The ladies on the social committee have been busy with preparations. This annual event is always popular with both the children and adults alike.
Like most clubs or organisations the transition to a new management committee takes time and much work. My thanks to the committee members for their support since I took over as President. Special thanks to Alex for her dedication in bringing the financial books up to date, an unenvious job. Tina Denman must be given a huge ‘thank you’ as she has taken on many roles in the position of secretary. The IN-Mail this month was probably as much as we normally get in a year. While on the subject of thanks I would like to thank Paul Denman for a continuing job of updating our web site. Thanks Paul.
The run to the Beaudesert Swap was very pleasant with about 25 members attending. Once again the cooks did a great job with the BBQ and thanks must again go to Bruce for towing the trailer and the members who helped prepare the food and the cleaning up. The next club meeting is on the 17th October when we have a guest speaker from Australian Paints, so attend if you can.
SEE YOU ALL AT CHRYSLER EXPO - SUNDAY 14TH OCTOBER FOR A GREAT DAY
Ted Sando, President
July 2001
My
how time flies, here it is mid July and the AGM over and done with.
After a record number of nominations for various positions to direct
the club for the next year I am very pleased to welcome my fellow
management committee members, some new - two lovely ladies, Tina
Denman (a founding member – great to have you on board Tina) as
secretary - and Alex Dahlin as Treasurer and some old - once again
that Irish rogue and character Mick Guinane as vice president.
Welcome also to the members who make-up the basic work force on
various committees. A very warm welcome to one and all.
AS A UNITED TEAM WE WILL LEAD THE CLUB INTO THE YEAR 2002.
Thanks must go to Kerry Gannon and his team for a great job performed over the last 12 months. Thanks guys.
A special mention – Kerry and Shirley Gannon who are foundation members (numbers 003 and 006) are taking a well earned break and going around Australia for ?? years. To you both a very sincere thank you for all your support over the years and all the best for the future.
I would like to offer heaps of thanks to those members who have supported the club consistently in various positions and jobs over the past many years. One wonders what we would have done without you? Many thanks. Its time (a well worn-out saying) that innovative and fresh ideas were integrated into the club. One, which will be implemented immediately, will be a suggestion box. We need new ideas. So thinking caps on. I believe the next 12 months will be extremely challenging, not only for the club, but also for society generally. technology is changing things almost daily. Keeping up with it is very trying.
Ted Sando, President
June 2001
It
has been a fairly busy month and a number of things are on the
agenda. Special Interest Vehicle Registration (Historic
Registration) – there has been reports of a crack down by
authorities on people abusing the system. The rules for SIV are
set down by Queensland Transport not this club so it’s up to
YOU to follow them! You have been warned! The ‘Forward
Look’ section of the magazine is there for this very reason to
allow you to participate in events such as club runs, shows and
shines etc. If you know of any upcoming events please let the
Newsletter Editor know so we can list it. If you are looking at
putting your Chrysler vehicle on SIV please phone the Dating Officer
as listed on the inside cover of the newsletter.
Chrysler Expo 2000 – Our major sponsors are now in place and everything seems to be progressing smoothly and coming along nicely. Thanks going to Swanny, Bruce and Laurence, for partaking in the artwork on the Diner, which will be used for the club display at Expo. Speaking of which you should receive a flyer about how to volunteer for jobs at Expo so watch out for it.
Memberships - As you can see from the inside front cover there has
been a change in the membership officers position. If you have
any quires regarding membership please give Ray Dahlin a ring on
(07) 3325 4849 A/H who shall remain in this caretaker position
til the AGM. Thanks to Brenda for her efforts as past
membership officer. Speaking of memberships – some of you
in reader land or internet space (whatever the case may be) are
members but we aren’t too sure of your faces so how about you
show them on a run or a meeting. If we are not delivering what
YOU the club member want in a club or you would like to see us do
something in particular, how about letting us know. YOU joined
this club for a reason, how about telling US (the committee) if we
live up to your expectations or otherwise.
AGM - Our annual general meeting is next month (July) and if you cannot attend please send back your AGM Proxy forms to the club by Tuesday the 9th of July. These are being sent out with this month’s newsletter to allow us to receive your vote on your behalf. If you haven’t received one please give us a call. All positions on the committee will be vacant and we want to fill them without fuss so make sure and attend the AGM in July at the Clubrooms at the normal starting time of 7.30pm. Please make sure you that if you wish to nominate yourself in a position make sure that you are prepared to carry out the required task/s for twelve months. Speaking of which, it has been somewhat of a turbulent 12 months and I hope that the club will be able to overcome some of the shortcomings in the months ahead with the election of a new management committee. Many thanks going to all the Committee Members, the Social Committee and also to those who volunteered their time and effort during the year to help in the running of the Club and the Club events including Chrysler Expo.
See you at the AGM.
Kerry Gannon , President.
May 2001
Apparently we made had a slight mix-up with a name in the
newsletter last month. I am sure by now Laurence has fixed the
problem. Please remember that this club is only manned by
people who volunteer their time for the benefit of others so
keep that in mine next time you are speaking to one of the committee
members. We are not paid for this privilege I am sure others
will agree that we can only do our best.
Speaking of committee positions July is approaching fast so don’t forget the nominations for at the upcoming AGM. There are 12 separate functions with a wide range of options ranging from President to Social committee. Remember that past committee members will be available to assist new members as required. For those of you who will be unable to attend, Laurence has told me that the AGM Proxy forms will be sent out with next month’s newsletter to allow us to receive your vote on your behalf. .
Chrysler Expo 2001 is well and truly on track with our new sponsors in hand and the artwork just about completed. Excellent looking flyers are now available so please help the Expo Committee with their distribution. To do this just call Mark Breeds on (07) 3245 1599) and he will pass them on. Speaking of Expo we shall shortly also be looking for volunteers to help out. You can expect to see more detail in later issues of ‘Chrysler News’ about how to volunteer for jobs at Expo so watch out for it.
Don’t forget the next club run is on Sunday, June the 24th, to the RACQ Motoring of Yesteryear Show at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds, which has a very good following of entries and well worth a look. . If you are interested in going and receiving a commemorative badge (which is well worth having), you will have to get a pre entry form from the organisers - the Brisbane Vintage Auto Club (07) 3205 1365 A/H ASAP!. . You may enter on the day but the BVAC advises that the club cannot guarantee the commemorative badge to late entries. See the ‘Forward Look’ section of this newsletter for more details.
On another note, you would have noticed the subject of e-mailing Chrysler News with club member Ted Sando having an ad in the newsletter requesting that those people with access to e-mail to contact him directly. If you can assist Ted I am sure he would be pleased to hear from you.
On a final note, an updated membership list is out and you should
receive it soon, so thanks to Brenda, Mick and Ruth for organising
this. On the subject of memberships Brenda has hinted that that
there have there have been a few more than the average number of
members with late fees owing. Please make sure and check your
membership card for the month you joined as this will help stop a lot
of grief and disappointment from both parties. As all members
have to pay their membership fees on October 31st each year it is
quite simply a case of dating the number of months owning till
October and pay the amount calculated on the $2.50 Single or $3.75
Family membership rate per month. If you don’t understand
this give Brenda a call on
(07) 3299 5083. The direct
consequence of not paying is that you will no longer be a member and
your magazine will not be posted and we don’t want this to
happen!
Speaking of memberships if you know of someone with a Chrysler or
Related Product (like a Simca, Humber, or Hillman) make sure that you
give em our phone number or email address. You never never
know.
Till next time.
Kerry Gannon , President.
April 2001
The Chrysler Expo Committee has asked me to tell you that they want as many members from this club, as possible, to bring their own vehicle/s to the Chrysler Expo 2001 on Sunday 14th October which is being held at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. Chrysler Expo is more than just winning trophies; it is about promoting and raising funds for this Club (the greatest Chrysler Club in Queensland!), promoting the Chrysler marque and the ‘old’ car movement in general. And we would like to see as many people come on the day as possible. So bring your family and friends along as well! Speaking about Chrysler Expo 2001 the Expo Committee is also looking at various forms of accommodation for those people intending to come to Expo from outside South East Queensland – we shall keep you posted on this. A full run down on Chrysler Expo is within this edition of the Newsletter. Please remember that Chrysler Expo is the major fundraiser for this club so your support is needed.
I believe the optional Easter Run to Armidale proved to be a worthy gathering between the two Chrysler Clubs. A vote of thanks to our club member Peter’Swanny’ Swanston, Rick Boyce from the Chrysler Restorers Club of Australia – NSW and Lyn Thompson from NEGS for organising the event. Laurence has been enlisted with the job of writing it up – so look out for this soon.
Don’t forget that our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is coming up in July. Nominations for various club positions are up for grabs including this one. Make sure and attend – this club needs your support and it is a great opportunity for you the member to decide whom you want to run this club for the next financial year. Nomination forms will be forth coming in later editions of Chrysler News so look out for them. If you want to nominate for a position or someone else please bear it in mind.
I have noticed that we have just gained a new member from Western Australia! – Simon Foley – welcome aboard! – if you are ever in Queensland make sure to come and say G’day. For all the other new members make sure and come to a meeting, a club run or Chrysler Expo – we sure like to see you and ya Chrysler!
Till next time,
Kerry Gannon , President.
March 2001
In the last Newsletter you would have noticed that club merchandise is available for purchase including club jackets that certainly come in handy during winter, so if you require a t-shirt, car club badge, club jackets, give the sales/property officer - Kerry Breeds a call on (07) 3245 1599 A/H to place your order. You would have also noticed we had a new advertiser in the newsletter –thanks to Phil and Brenda for organising this. Don’t forget that as club members you can advertise free in the for sale/wanted section of the newsletter –to do this just contact the Newsletter Editor or post it to our post office address as outlined on the front cover.
An update on progress for Chrysler Expo 2001 is all good new. It looks like we have a naming sponsor for this year’s event. A classic car insurance company from N.S.W is very interested and is currently considering a proposal they us asked us to prepare. At the moment they are talking six figures, which we will probably accept. Speaking about Expo it was good to see a fairly large contingent of Chrysler Owners at the Gold Coast Tweed Valiant Chrysler Car Club’s Show & Shine on Sunday the 25 March. It certainly showed the fantastic diversity of cars we have in this club and how great the product itself is.
Speaking of runs the optional Easter Run to Armidale is just
around the corner and should be a worthy gathering to those who are
going. For those not going to Armidale at Easter don’t
forget the SEQ All Chrysler Connections Car Club have a Show and
Shine in Rockhampton. Several of us when up last year and had a
good time. Geoff, Ian, Warren, Kerry and crew looked after us
and for those who think Armidale is to far I assure you that you
would be most welcome in Rocky. For more information ring Ian
Pressler on (07) 4155 1831. Go forth and Mo-Party.
Till
next time,
Kerry Gannon , President.
February 2001
Welcome to all our new members, some we meet for the first time
on our Brewery Run last Sunday. Approx 40 members met and enjoyed our
usual lunch of steak and rissoles again superbly cooked by our team
of ravelling chefs. We have had a bit of a reshuffle of the club
committee as Michael Appelman our Treasurer has agreed to stand aside
to allow better control of our huge cash deposits spread all over
Queensland. Kerry Breeds who was the Treasurer for Chrysler
Expo will handle the accounts from now on til the AGM. Thankyou
to Michael for being the bean counter for the last 8 months.
See
you at the meeting.
Till next time.
Kerry Gannon , President.
January 2001
Welcome to the new century and welcome to all our new members.
We have another big year planned with lots of runs already planned.
Don’t forget to ring Jenny Sando and let her plan for our
BBQs. Thanks to Kev Baker for his informative talk at our last
meeting. Our new photocopier is doing a good job but is useless
without the good job Brenda is doing in the preparation work.
Thanks Brenda. Plans are underway for a naming rights sponsor
for Chrysler Expo - more on that later. Our next run is the
popular Brewery run to Yatala on the 25th February, then on to Jacobs
Well. Check the ‘Forward Look’ Section of the
newsletter for times.
Till next time.
Kerry Gannon , President.
October 2000
It
has come to our attention that we currently have quite a few
unfinancial members on our books. In accordance with a majority
vote by members of the association at the Annual General Meeting held
on 19th July 2000, members are reminded that all membership fees are
now due on the of 31st of October each year. As such all
members should have been sent a copy of a handout that outlines the
subsequent amount members will have to pay to remain a financial
member until 31st October 2001. As stated in our
constitution Paragraph 6 (A) (if any member fails to pay his/her
membership within twenty one (21) days of it be coming due the
secretary shall report to the committee who may cause the name of
such member to be erased from the list of members) change may to
will. Therefore any member not financial after 31st October
2000 will be taken off the mailing list and membership number
reallocated. Members attending the Christmas party in November
will need to produce their current membership cards and register
such. It is regrettable to resort to such action but a
necessary one. All efforts have been made by Brenda to insure
everyone is up to date with our current restructure of fees but it
seems to been ignored by a large number of members – hence this
action.
When and if your newsletter does not appear in the mail –
don’t ring Brenda and whinge – Ring me (07) 3297 5876 and
have a good excuse ready.
P.S Thankyou to all the members who were involved in producing the Expo Edition of the last newsletter. The best club newsletter produced by any club in Australia. Oi Oi Oi.
Kerry Gannon , President.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHEAL AND DONNA ON THEIR ENGAGEMENT!
ALL THE BEST FROM THE MEMBERS OF THE COCQ inc
September 2000
All members are reminded that Chrysler Expo 2000 is only two
weeks away on Sunday the 8th October. So far entries are going
fairly well but there are a few noticeable omissions. If you
have forgotten to enter, please get your entry form in today.
We have purposely moved the release of the magazine forward so
members know what is going on and members will have the chance to pre
enter their vehicle/s. It is certainly easier to pre-enter now
than on the day and it is cheaper too.
On the subject of Expo I would just like to point out what it is all about. The Queensland Chrysler Expo was and still is purely designed for the Chrysler Enthusiast in mind no matter what type of Chrysler Vehicle and no matter which club they are from or who attends. The day is to celebrate this great marque, a marque we have come to love and know – Chrysler. No GM crap or Fords –MOPAR rules! Chrysler Expo is now in its 11th year and it is hoped that Chrysler Expo will continue for many years to come. This year as with last years Expo, the Chrysler Expo Committee is grateful to those members who are able to assist on the day. Without you the running of Expo would be very difficult.
As per the club we have had a few changes in the last 6 months or so and we are finally settling down and getting on with business as usual however, like all good clubs the committee requires positive or negative feedback – we are only as good as you tell us – it is your club so don’t just sit back and say nothing, please speak up, so we can fix the problems before they cause further grief. On the other hand like the DaimlerChrysler company, the club continues to expand and assist those people that do not necessarily own a certain brand of Chrysler. As one member put it this is perhaps the only Chrysler Club in Queensland that recognises all Chrysler Vehicles without prejudice or affiliation to a particular model – even Hillmans!
By the way don’t forget our Christmas Party on the 25th November. The social committee is busily organising a spit roast and prizes to give out on the day and by all indications it is going to be one great party. A club Christmas hamper is again being organised this year and members are requested to donate a small item eg. tin or packet of something, car goodies etc. We will then raffle it at the Christmas Party. Raffle tickets will be available soon. Please do not bring items for the hamper to Expo, as Jenny who is co-ordinating the hamper raffle will have enough on her plate. Please bring any donations to the next Club meeting or the ladies day run. See you all at CHRYSLER EXPO 2000.
Kerry Gannon , President.
August 2000
Firstly welcome to all new members and to our new secretary Bev
who at least wears a dress in public. Bev has volunteered to take on
the job seeing as how Jimmy & Hayley have their hands full with
bub. You will also notice that three new positions have been
added to Management Committee for 2000-2001 to lighten the load on
other people in various the positions. Mick Guinane has taken
on the position of Minutes Secretary – so he can take minutes
at the meeting for the newsletter editor, Brenda O’Shea has
taken on the position of Membership Officer –so she can
organise the numbers of members the club has and Kerry Breeds has
taken on the position of Sales/Property Officer so she can distribute
stuff to everyone else. Thanks to these people for
volunteering!
While on the subject of volunteering we still
require more help for our upcoming Chrysler Expo in October so don’t
be shy. Mark won’t bite you when you send the volunteer
forms in or ring to him to volunteer. Think of this when you
are sitting back reading the computer generated issues of ‘Chrysler
News’ or eating your prime piece of steak or chicken with
sausages all washed down with cold cans of soft drink at a club run.
Speaking of food the Clubs Christmas Party is this year to be
held on a Saturday – the 25th November. Jenny Sando,
Shirley Gannon and Colleen Dahlin are the people to talk to about
what is required for the Christmas hamper. All the details
surrounding the Christmas party will be printed up in upcoming issues
on ‘Chrysler News’ so keep the date free and you eyes
peeled to the pages of this Newsletter. I believe Mick Guinane
has volunteered to be that person that flies around in a red suit
with reindeer pulling the sled. Good on ya Mick! Him in the
boot of the red Dun-e-door Commodore. I’d like to see that!
I forgot to mention in passing from the last Presidents message
praising those people that work extremely hard behind the scenes –
thanks also to the Denman boys -Paul and Michael who provide us with
a web site and keep it up to date. If you have a chance make sure to
check it out! On the subject of those people that do contribute
to the running of the club if you can attend a meeting please do so
as it gives you the member a chance to air your views on the running
of the club.
Articles for the magazine, club run reports, places
of interest, and general suggestions on how we the Management
Committee can make the club better for you - the member are always
welcome.
Don’t forget the next club run to Beaudesert on
Sunday 17th September. See the ‘Forward Look’
section for more details. Also remember that if you want to be in the
front of the food queue please let Jenny Sando know that you are
attending. Till next time.
Kerry Gannon , President.
July 2000
Firstly
I would like to thank those people from the past committee for their
support including Eric who has been around for a while, and the
outgoing Treasurer, Hayley who now has her hands full with the two
week old baby. I would also like to welcome Michael Appleman to
the position of Treasurer – thanks for volunteering.
Jimmy for the present time continues on in the current position of
Secretary. In this respect it is unfortunate that a club of
this size that only 29 members attended the AGM making it extremely
hard to get people into positions. In general there seems to be
a lack of commitment by members to attend meetings and it is hoped
that in light of this that we as a committee can make them more
interesting.
Secondly, I would also like to thank those people that work extremely hard behind the scenes to keep the club running – these include Phil and Brenda who are continuing on with the photocopier (despite the machine breaking down all the time) and Laurence who has taken on the task of writing up the Newsletter. Please keep those photos and stories coming, as I am sure Laurence would be glad to hear from those of you who are closet writers. Please remember that “Chrysler News” the official newsletter of the club, is generally put together on the second weekend after the club meeting and volunteers to assist in the compiling, stapling of magazines and putting them in envelopes are always welcome.
On another note it seems that the food on club runs (that is supplied by the club) seems to be disappearing at a rate of knots and makes the catering side of things very difficult. This was discussed at the July meeting and it has been decided that sufficient food will be taken for those who are attending and it will be those who will get the first option on the eating of it. If you want to be in the front of the food queue please let Jenny Sando know that you are attending. Don’t forget the next club run to Pimpama on Sunday 6th August. See the ‘Forward Look’ section for more details. On the subject of Club runs, these in the future will also be changed by having club representatives in the Brisbane, Sunshine and Gold Coast and Ipswich regions select places of interest whilst Peter ‘Swanny’ Swanston (our intrepid Events Director) who has worked hard this year will still be organising the special club runs including the Australia Day Rally and the Armstrong Siddeley Run. We shall keep you posted.
You will also notice that we have been doing some housekeeping. For once the club has finally got around to getting a post office box and saves a lot of confusion when it comes to receiving the mail. Secondly the membership payment will change to make the Secretary’s and the Treasurer’s jobs a little easier by making all memberships due in the one-month as outlined in the minutes.
Don’t forget that Chrysler Expo 2000 is only two months away and the Chrysler Expo Committee has been working hard to make the day a success and if you would like to enter your vehicle you can contact either Ray Dahlin on (07) 3297 5675 , Mark Breeds/Kerry Breeds on (07) 3245 1599 or myself on (07) 3297 5876. Don’t forget to fill out your volunteer form for Chrysler Expo 2000 and send it back to Mark Breeds as soon as possible so tasks on the day can be allocated.
Kerry Gannon , President.
June 2000
Jimmy
tells me that his mail box still looks like an advertisement for
Jenny Craig as far as nominations for committee positions are
concerned. I am told that there are some for President so it would
appear that we will just have to settle for a few Presidents rather
than Secretaries etc. Seriously though, if you have been considering
a committee position but are somewhat concerned about taking on the
role, remember that the last lot of committee members will be
available to advise and assist so come along on the night and put
your hand up. Speaking of volunteers, it was great to see the
Chrysler Owners Club assist, at short notice, the Armstrong Siddeley
Club with Motoring of Yesteryear last Sunday. I thought we did quite
well to feed about 1000 people in a couple of hours.
There has been little response to Ted about the idea of E-Mailing ‘Chrysler News’ to our members. If you are a member & interested could you please contact Ted on tedsando@bit.net.au . Similarly, we are still looking for assistance for Ian to come up with ideas for the club display at Chrysler Expo. If you are able to assist Ian please let us know or call Ian direct on 3269 5212. Remember your role will only be to come up with an Idea for the display and coordinate the requirements. Club members will be assisting on the day to help put it all together.
We had a slight problem this month as Phil had to send Brenda in for a 10,000-km service, which meant that there was a slight technical difficulty in getting some of the photo coping we needed. So if you have been waiting patiently for your membership renewal etc. don’t worry as you haven’t done your dough.
As we have received nominations for President, there is a better that average chance that this will be my last Presidents Message. Having spent the last few years taking up space on page 3 of ‘Chrysler News’, I would like to thank all those who have assisted me on the Committee in the past, some of whom have stepped into the beach at short notice. Particular thanks must go to the various newsletter editors of ‘Chrysler News’ who have converted my miscellaneous ramblings into legible words and probably in the process saved me from being hung on several occasions.
On a final note don’t forget the Club Run to Brian Coughrans place just outside of Toowoomba. Brian has a huge collection of old cars and machinery including over 120 stationary engines so this will be a run well worth the drive. (see the Forward Look section for more details).
See you there
Eric Levett, President
May 2000
Jimmy tells me that the mailbox has not been overflowing with
nominations for committee positions at the AGM. I have assured
him that this is natural because, as there are 12 separate functions,
members are only having difficulty in deciding which one to choose,
from such a wide range of options. Remember that past committee
members will be available to assist new members as required. For
those of you who will be unable to attend the AGM Proxy forms are
being sent out to allow us to receive your vote on your behalf. These
need to be returned to Jimmy by the 2nd July.
The May meeting was the largest we have had for
some time, and it is good to see quite a few new members along.
It seems that the new format for the meetings is working quite well,
albeit that this meeting did go a little longer with the question of
GST rearing its ugly head. In respect of this, it was decided
that we should be applying for an ABN, GST registration and Tax File
Number on the advice of our accountancy consultant. Doesn't
it make you feel good that we shall via GST be doing our little bit
towards the betterment of society?
On another note, the subject of e-mailing Chrysler News was further discussed with Ted and Ian forming a committee to look further into the issue and it has been requested that those people with access to e-mail contact them directly - Thanks Ted and Ian. (Refer to minutes of the magazine).
Chrysler Expo 2000 - Ray has in his words run out of fresh ideas for the club display at Expo, and as he is also tied up on the Expo Committee itself, we are looking for a volunteer/s to come up with fresh ideas for this years display. Please let us know if you are able to assist in this. Your role/s will be to come up with the theme and arrange the necessary items and coordinate the club members on the day who will be assisting you with the display. You can expect to see more detail in the June issue of 'Chrysler News' about how to volunteer for jobs at Expo so watch out for this issue.
Don't forget the club run is on June the 25th to the Armstrong Siddley Motoring of Yesteryear Show at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. Those who entered last year have received entry forms direct from the organisers. Jimmy (Secretary) has spare copies of the form for anyone interested. To ensure you receive your commemorative badge, and to assist Geoff and the Armstrong Siddley Club please ensure the forms are returned to the Armstrong Siddley Club by 10/6/2000. This is a agnificent event well worth the $8.00 entry fee. You may enter on the day but Geoff advises that his club cannot guarantee the commemorative badge to late entries.
On a final note, Jimmy tells me that there have there have been a few more than the average number of members changing addresses without telling us. The direct consequence is that their magazine etc has been returned so please let us know if you are moving and where to send your mail to! By the way congratulations to Pat Hogan for winning 'Show Champion' -Orchid Section at the Ipswich Show.
Eric Levett, President
March / April 2000
I hope everyone had a happy and safe Easter. Several of us took
advantage of the cheap fuel at the moment and went on of the two
optional runs to either ‘Easter in the Country’ at Roma
or ‘Chryslers Cruising Rockhampton’ while others attended
the Hot Rod show at Cleveland. Bruce tells me that Easter in the
Country was again a good weekend with some 58 vehicles in attendance.
Chryslers Cruising Rockhampton was also a great weekend with some 48
vehicles on display on the Saturday although we calculated that
another 10 or so were kept indoors because of the rain. The Sunday
cruise down to Yeppoon and Emu Park saw about 70 vehicles in
attendance, and with our friends from the R & S Valiant Club and
South East Queensland All Chrysler Connections we had a magnificent
array of Chryslers. Arriving a day early, we took the opportunity to
go for a run down to Mt Morgan and had an enjoyable day. Chrysler
Cruising Rockhampton will be a run well worth considering next year,
particularly for those not going down to the Armidale run to meet up
with the members from the NSW branch of the Chrysler Restorers Club
of Australia. On another note I am told Ted did such a good job of
running the April meeting in my absence that I will no longer be
required to attend club meetings. Ted was able to report that the Fax
and Computer have now been purchased and that the new Club shirts are
now available. The meeting discussed the possibility of E mailing
‘Chrysler News’ to those members with E-mail facilities.
We shall keep you posted on this. E-mail should lighten the load for
those concerned as well as keeping production costs down.
Chrysler Expo 2000 arrangements are coming along well, with the 2000 artwork having being agreed upon. We will be looking at the job roster for the day, and we shall be shortly be calling for volunteers to assist on the day. Please remember that there are about 170 two-hour tasks to be performed on the day, and your assistance for two hours will ensure that the work on the day is evenly spread and that everyone gets to enjoy Expo.
Now the club has a new computer and fax machine to simplify the task of producing the club magazine and doing other administrative tasks, members not able to attend meetings and such have the opportunity to contact the management committee. Laurence in particular is still on the lookout for photos of your vehicle/s for the front of “Chrysler News’. Or why not send Laurence a feature on your vehicle (as well as a photo) for inclusion in the ‘My Car’ section. You can send these either direct to the club address or direct to Laurence.
Don’t forget the AGM is approaching fast (July) so make sure that if you wish to nominate for a position please do so as quite a few positions will be up for grabs including this one. Nomination forms are being sent out with this magazine and we need these back by the June meeting, so you have no excuse to say you weren’told!
Anyhow see you all on the run to the Caboolture Historical Village on the 21st of May.
Eric Levett, President
February 2000
Unfortunately, I have the duty of advising members of the
resignation of Graham Kluver from the club and Judy from the position
of Newsletter Editor. Graham had served as secretary since July 1994
with great dedication and we shall miss his services. The same
applies to Judy who has done an excellent job over the years. With
this in mind it is perhaps then timely to reflect on the composition,
purpose and administration of those organisations titled “CLUB”,
which to my mind is: “A CLUB is an organisation composed
of individuals with a similar interest, who assemble as a club to
enjoy the pursuit of that interest, and in so doing relieve
themselves of the stress caused by the more mundane things in life
such as work. All members pay a membership contribution towards the
running of the club and the purchase of the plant, equipment, food,
etc. necessary to assist in enjoyment of the pursuit of their common
interest. The success of the club is dependent on the contribution,
not only financially, but also the personality of its members.
In any organisation, be it the place where you go to work, worship, or enjoy the pursuit of your own interest there will be those who contribute and those who do not. While this may not be necessarily good or right, it is nevertheless a fact of life in the case of a CLUB, the enjoyment of the pursuit of your interest is paramount (otherwise why be in a CLUB?) and as I have said, the success of the CLUB is dependant on the contribution of its members. The measure of success of the CLUB then, is the enjoyment the members derive from the CLUB, from the collective contribution of the members comprising the CLUB. One must remember, the club is not a thing on its own right. It is an organisation composed of individuals. Those individuals meet once a year to elect certain of their number to form a committee. That committee undertakes the mundane tasks required to ensure the financial and administrative processes are carried out to allow the CLUB to succeed in the provision of enjoyment. It is vital therefore, that these processes are sound otherwise the club will suffer and the enjoyment of its members will be diminished. Aside from their role in the performance of mundane tasks the committee members are simply CLUB members who through their financial and personal contribution seek to derive enjoyment from the CLUB as well as to, by their efforts, contribute that little bit more to the enjoyment of the other members. A club committee may, on occasions, request that other club members volunteer to assist in the mundane tasks, and has the entitlement to expect that they will do so to the best of their ability. A CLUB committee must (as must the CLUB itself) however, accept that It must also accept that those who do contribute may have their enjoyment diminished by those who do not. It must then be accepted both by the CLUB committee and CLUB members that there is no mandate for further reduction of their enjoyment by criticism. It must also be accepted that a volunteer, operating generally outside the volunteers’ normal area of expertise, may not achieve perfection.
A CLUB member must then, if the CLUB is to be successful in
providing enjoyment provide assistance to the CLUB and its members
whenever possible. CLUB members must accept that, while a member
offering their assistance may not do the task as well as perhaps they
themselves could achieve, they must not allow their enjoyment to be
diminished by refusing that assistance. The CLUB and its members must
also, if the club is to be successful, accept that there will be
members who, due to remoteness or other personal circumstances, are
unable to assist to any real degree. The members of the CLUB must
also accept that their contribution, to the extent possible, adds to
the enjoyment of all members, and thereby the success of the CLUB”.
As to the question of replacements, in accordance with Rule 13a
of the Rules of the Association, the Management Committee proposes to
fill these two positions for the period until the 2000 AGM. For the
Secretary, Jimmy Taylor has volunteered to stand in at present whilst
Laurie will be taking on the task of Newsletter Editor. Thanks to
both of them. Should you wish to apply for these positions please
advise me prior to the general meeting in March.
