Five am saw several of us arrive at Rocklea to find a couple of
swappers already waiting. With 119 pre entries, we were expecting
a good roll up and were not disappointed. The swap was bigger than
ever with approximately 40 sites tempting us to spend our cash. The
entrants and early birds for the swap ensured that Don and the crew in
the kitchen were kept busy from early in the morning.
We had over 170 vehicles on the Show arena for display and judging.
With Just Rock Ipswich providing a dancing display at one end, the DJ in
the middle (with a fine selection of 50’s and 60’s music) and the Club/Expo
counter at the other end, the BIG tent was a hive of activity all day.
The trade displays from Queensland Paint Supplies, Fire Power,
Blue Star, Binstead, The Tool Men and Panel House attracted considerable
interest, and the drink tents also proved popular as it was a very warm
day. With displays by the Fire Brigade at a simulated accident scene
on a vehicle donated by Mt Gravatt Wreckers, an engine blow as well as
the 170+ vehicles, there was plenty of activity on the oval. Unfortunately,
the poor old Ford Laser engine lasted only about 15 seconds before it quietly
stopped, probably in protest at being cut up by the Fire and Rescue crew.
Much time was spent by Club members renewing old acquaintances
and enjoying the day prior to the trophy presentation at 3pm. Here
Swanny and myself managed to perform a fine circus act by tripping over
each other while trying to present the trophies.
Many thanks to:
The R & S Valiant Car Club, South East Queensland All Chrysler Connections,
Gold Coast Tweed Chrysler Valiant car Club, Queensland Chrysler Association,
Charger Car Club of Queensland, for their fine displays.
I particularly wish to thank all those from the Chrysler Owners
Club of Queensland who helped on the day and made Expo 1999 the success
it was.
Congratulations to all those who collected trophies on the day.
See you at Expo 2000.
