Another Chrysler Expo has come and gone and, from all accounts, was
an overwhelming success. This event, which is one of our ASMF sanctioned
events run by the Chrysler Owners Club of Queensland Inc, attracted approximately
150 entries. Vehicles on display ranged from early vintage models to the
new Chrysler PT Cruiser.
As usual with this show, there was a strong showing of American cars,
along with the Australian Valiants and even some British Rootes Group examples.
Most of the action was held on the oval this year with only
the swap meet and parking being in the outer area. The oval was a very
busy place, as was the car corral and swap meet. (Plenty of Chrysler bargains
were to be had there, but if you had a Ford you wouldn't have been disappointed.
The Ford bargain for the day would have had to have been the XY Shaker
scoop, fibreglass with steel air cleaner for $50.00) There was also a record
number of trade stands.
Many thanks to Leo Muller for the GTS Neon Viper and the PT Cruiser,
which created a lot of interest. A special thanks to the sponsors:
Firepower, Val Parts, Val Restorations, Binstead Engineering, Qld Valiant
Restorations, Mt Gravatt Auto Wreckers, Bruce Robinson, Auscharger and
Shannon’s Insurance. Thanks also to Just Rock Ipswich, who provided quality
dancing throughout the day and also to Ian Connolly for a professional
job as DJ..
Next year there is a new venue for this show.
It will be held at Mt Gravatt Showgrounds and the date of 14th of October
2001 has been set down.
It is also proposed that a Saturday night cruise and BBQ may be organised
for the evening before next year's Chrysler Expo.
Congratulations to all those who collected trophies on the day.
See you at Expo 2001.
