The show started early for some of us with an excellent roll up of about 25 members on the Saturday night to put up the various tents, position chairs etc to make things that little bit easier on Sunday.
Swappers were already lined up when I arrived just
after 6.00am, and from 7 – 8.30am the pace at the entrants gate was furious
with one car having to be registered every 3-4 seconds and then to have
them on the oval by 8.30am.

Other Clubs attending were the R & S Valiant Club, South East Qld All Chrysler Connections, Gold Coast Tweed Heads Chrysler Valiant Club, Queensland Chrysler Association and the, Charger Club with their fine displays. as well as our own display and those of the individual entrant, made something for everyone.
This year, we attracted several vehicles from the
1920’s which have previously been a bit light on at Expo, and ranged upwards
from there with fine examples through the years to the 1980’s.

With the cars, dancers and traders on the oval the view from the Show Office in the Belford Complex was certainly impressive. Our traders had some magnificent displays filling up the bookies enclosure
Jimmy Ray provided a great selection of music throughout
the day, and the dancers from Just Rock with their cars on display next
to the dance floor added greatly to the interest. The model car display
also proved popular as did the swap and car corral.

With 69 cars on display, the Chrysler Owners Club site was busy, the shade of the club tents proving very popular as were the kitchen and drink stands. The children were kept amused with the inflatable castle and seemed happy about getting longer than anticipated rides in it. We had a good roll up of out of town members, most of whom I only got the change to say "Good Day" to with a promise to "Catch up with you later" , which never materialized as I became otherwise occupied.
The engine blow proved popular with quite a crowd
gathering for this, while the trophy displayed in the adjacent Expo tent
drew many favorable comments. The trophy presentation commenced at about
3.00 pm with many of our members collecting (some more than once). Those
to collect trophies included Brad, Mick, Mal, Bob, Brian & Wendy, Kerry,
Ian, Dennis and Jim. The Qld Chrysler Association collected the trophy
for Best Club Display.

With the trophy presentations over, the task of pulling down the tents and cleaning up commenced followed, by a few refreshments. 6.30pm saw the last of us depart somewhat tired but well pleased with the day, and the storm in Brisbane two days later reinforcing what a great day for a car show the Sunday had been.
Incidentally, during the day I ran into Mick Wasson ( the current president of the Chrysler Restorers Club of Australia) and wife Joan from Sydney. I believe also that we signed up another 19 new members on the day.
See you at the Chrysler Expo 1999, 10th October 1999
Eric Levett, President
